Dr. Phillip Doyle, composer, saxophonist, flutist, clarinetist, and pianist, holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the world-renowned Frost School of Music at the University of Miami where he is a Henry Mancini Fellow, and holds a Master of Music Degree and Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Phil´s primary academic work focuses on the study of Harmonics, under the tutelage of Drew Lesso, a pupil of Karlheinz Stockhausen. He has been a Faculty Lecturer of Saxophone (and Interim Director of Jazz Studies) at Eastern Washington University overseeing the departments rhythmic music curriculum, managing faculty, instructing various courses, and working closely with administration in both the development and implementation of new and forward-thinking pedagogy. He also helped design a burgeoning popular music curriculum using Skype to bring national and international artists into the classroom which he continues at FÍH. Phil has held faculty teaching positions at The University of Illinois, The University of Miami, and as Fagstjóri for the Rhythmic Division of Tónlistarskólinn á Akureyri (TónAk). His academic posts over the last decade have focused primarily on preparing students for careers as both professional musicians and as innovative and critical thinkers. Professionaly, Phil has had the pleasure of performing with Mike Stern, David Liebman, James Moody, John Fedchock, Vince Mendoza, Carmen Lundy, Jim McNeely, Gonzalo Rubacalba, KC and the Sunshine Band for two international world tours, with Maria Schneider for the Grammy-Nominated UM Album "Romances“, Gloria Estefan, James Newton Howard (film composer for The Hunger Games), Barry Manilow, Monica Mancini, among many others, and is a P. Mauriat Sponsored Artist. His performances have included television performances on "The Today Show" (NBC), "The Ellen Degeneres Show" (Los Angeles), performances at venues such as The Hollywood Bowl (Los Angeles), the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide Entertainment Centers, the Monostero di Colonna in Tran-Barletta-Italy, as well as venues in Hawaii, Kauai, Amsterdam, the Cayman Islands, and many more. Phil has been a guest clinician and educator at Ball State University, The University of Illinois, the New World School of the Arts and has appeared at the Chicago Jazz Festival, the Monterey Jazz Festival (California) and more. In Iceland he has performed with Mezzoforte, TodMobile at Harpa, Stjórnin, Jónas Sig, Június Meyvant, Màgnus Eiriksson, Pálmi Gunnars, has been featured with Synfonia Nord, recorded with Atli Orvars for the Will Ferrill Eurovision movie, performend on N4, and RUV and has worked with many others in the musical community. Phil has recorded for Origin Records, The Hit Factory (LA), and has participated on a larger number of record releases. Most recently he can be heard on Scott Routenberg´s "Inside“ (Summit Records), his own album "Akroasis (The Lambdoma)“ (recently featured on the independent feature film "Vedic Nights“) "Rákír" (The Ludvig Kari Quartet) and "Cold Fusion“ release by Þorir Ulfarsson.
